The movie Vacation is not a remake, it’s is more like a passing of the torch. After 18 years the Griswold’s are coming back, but this time instead of Chevy Chase at the helm it’s his son Rusty (Ed Helms). This movie is absolutely hilarious. It’s dirty, raunchy, filthy are rated R, definitely not for kids and yet it’s everything you would expect from the classic film of the 80s. I felt although not perfectly accurate, it was a pretty good spiritual successor to the first film.
If you’re a fan of the original, you will be pleasantly surprised as there are plenty of references that date back to the other vacation movies. Rusty Griswold is now grown up and has a family of his own. His wife Debbie (Christina Applegate) and his sons Kevin and James, are all planning a trip to Wally World. The result is a pretty predictable movie but it is pretty good.
It’s not too often you see a laugh out loud movie and Vacation is surely one of them. If you are not a fan of the original films, then you’re and not going to like this movie. What makes it is so good is the nostalgia behind it. Vacation is pretty infantile and ridiculous, but it doesn’t pretend to be anything else. It is exactly what you expect it to be, that’s why you’re going to enjoy it!
