THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL follows the adventures of Gustave (Ralph Fiennes), a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and his sidekick, Moustafa the lobby boy.
The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for a family fortune — all against the back-drop of a turbulent changing Europe.
The film has the concierge telling his story to author, Stefan Zweig (played Jude Law) in the Grand Budapest’s dining room. It’s a tale about the concierge fighting for control over a valuable painting given to him by one of his regular guests.
A charming movie that’s funny without being funny. It’s messy film and feels all over the place. Especially with the politics playing an important part of the background. Nicely framed but despite the excellent cinematography lacks the depth to make this film a classic
