As much as I love Adam Sandler movies, this movie will have a certain generation gap issue with the audience depending on how old you are. You’ll either get this film or you won’t which is okay as there seems to be a little of something for everyone. It’s very nostalgic but it seems to focus on the nostalgia of the 80s and early 90s, so not everyone is going to get it, especially younger kids.

Pixels is about aliens disguised as 80s memorabilia (primarily Videogame characters) who come back to invade and conquer the earth. It’s up to the president’s lifelong best friend (played by Adam Sandler) a former videogame arcade champion to save the day. The CGI is pretty good but the performances are flat, the comedic timing is off and Kevin James is president of the United States.

As a child of the 80s, I couldn’t stop laughing through the whole the thing. But what I notice in audiences, was that the younger kids in the audience were more taken by the special facts than the actual jokes. Yes it’s ridiculous but it’s funny and entertaining but the bottom line is that it’s very comical and although the idea is absurd it’s a breath of fresh air compared to all the other rehashed and rebooted stuff out there. I think this is a fun film. But just like other Adam Sandler movies don’t expect much from it and just take it with a grain of salt and enjoy it for what it is.
