Ex Machina is a different type of sci-fi film then we’re used to. Instead of starships, laser fire and self-effacing droids, we are given a thought provoking movie about thinking and ideas in what true science fiction is about.

Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) is a programmer that assists his company’s CEO in an A.I. project. As might be expected, Caleb falls in love with the A.I. and is protective as the CEO has other plans with the A.I. that Caleb does not approve of.

Ex-Machina is suspenseful but well written and filmed. You can argue that the film is very predictable, but it is also rewarding and worth it. Director Alex Garland’s debut, is an intelligent and well-polished thought provoking film making it easily one of the best in its genre.
